Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Facility Dog Program

The Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department works with patients, families, and the medical staff to provide services that meet the unique psychosocial and developmental needs of each child and family. Facility Dogs are expertly trained to help comfort and normalize the experience of children and teens during a visit to the hospital. The facility dogs at UC Davis Health were trained and provided free of charge to the child life specialist handlers from Canine Companions for Independence.

The CARE Project's Canine CARE Program

The CARE Project offers opportunities for self-expression, relaxation, and recreation; fostering independence and enhancing quality of life through evidenced-based clinical interventions and therapeutic activities. Volunteer Canine CARE therapy dogs visit adult patients, helping individuals cope with their hospitalization and providing motivation to engage in treatment.
