On April 25, I will run the Rock 'n' Roll Nashville Marathon in honor of Brixton, who continues to inspire all who know his story. Brixton is one of the strongest little fighters we know.
Born at 27 weeks, 5 days, weighing only 2 lbs 6.5 oz, Brixton never gave up. He was due March 8, 2015, but arrived December 12, 2014, and spent 60 days in the NICU learning to breathe, grow, and thrive. Even after coming home, he faced surgeries, wore a helmet, and worked through different challenges. Now, 11 years later, he continues daily growth hormone injections and medications — still catching up from being born premature.
Our hearts go out to all families and babies who have experienced the NICU. It’s a feeling we’ll never forget. The NICU was one of the scariest times of his family’s life, but the doctors and nurses at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt were angels sent by God who saved and brought him home. His “Coming Home Day” on February 10 is celebrated every year as a reminder of the prayers, care, and hope that made it possible.
Please consider donating to help other tiny fighters like Brixton.
Nashville is Leg #14 of our MiracleMission, Running4Miracles—running 50 marathons in 50 states to honor 50 preemies. Past states include SC, WV, MN, DE, LA, OK, VA, RI, KY, AR, IN, OH, and PA, raising over $21,000 to support premature children.
I dedicate my efforts to paying it forward for the support received from the Children’s Miracle Network. Our son, Brooks, now 20, was born at 25 weeks, weighing just 1 lb. 6 oz. He spent four months in the Penn State Health Children’s Hospital NICU. Our goal is $1 million before completing all 50 states—the cost of his care. Brooks, our million-dollar baby, is proof that miracles do happen.
